Default Prepping for Vinyl flooring

Hey out there,

I"d like to lay high quality vinyl flooring onto plywood subfloor.

"U Lay" at $1 per sq ft is expensive. Cement based filler has been recommended but I'm sceptical of it 's ability to resist cracking and crumbling.
Should I have more faith!!??
Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Lee Boland.
